About

Background

James Corbett is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee conditions. He works at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust in Bury St Edmunds and also sees patients privately at St. Edmunds Hospital. His approach combines the latest surgical techniques with a personalised focus, aiming to reduce pain, improve mobility, and help patients return to the activities they love.

Areas of Specialisation

Knee Preservation Surgery: Using advanced keyhole (arthroscopic) techniques and osteotomy procedures to realign and preserve damaged joints, helping patients avoid or delay joint replacement.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: Using patient-centred techniques to restore stability and return to sport.

Partial (Unicompartmental) Knee Replacement: Offering targeted treatment for arthritis in a single area of the knee, often with faster recovery times.

Total Knee Replacement: When the damage in the joint is severe, performing total knee replacement drawing on experience of personalised alignment strategies to tailor the joint replacement to the individual rather than a standardised approach.

Approach

Mr Corbett is passionate about individualised care and works closely with each patient to develop a treatment plan that suits their specific condition, lifestyle, and goals.

Mr Corbett completed his undergraduate training at Imperial College London graduating with first class honours.

While completing basic Orthopaedic training he undertook a Masters degree in Engineering with a focus on Orthopaedic Surgery at Cardiff University.

These experiences provided in-depth exposure to advanced knee reconstruction and joint replacement techniques, including work with elite athletes and complex cases.
